Day 2 was a long one. We didnt complete our mental prep session until close to midnight. Today is our last day of practice before we play our first exibition game and my workload has happily doubled. I've been asked to take on the duties of team Canada white for the duration of the tournament. So moving forward I will be with 2 teams. My new goalies are Ian Scott, a 1st round pick and current member of the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL. The other goalie is Matthew Welsh who also plays Major junior for Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL.

 

All 4 goalies have some serious skill and extremely hard working. Now we just have to focus on bringing it all together for game day as every country will be very tough com...

In a small town of only 11000, the Canadian pride and love of hockey in Dawson Creek, BC is first class. In a facility fit for the pros, a massive team Canada jersey hangs from the stands, just another reminder that this is our game. 

 

In the coaches room my name is on a plate fastened to the wall....in the corner spot, they obviously know how this whole golie coach thing works.

 

The messae in the players dressing room is simple and truly sums up what is going to be a competitive week. There should be no surprise as to why we as Canadians settle for nothing less than 1st when it comes to our favourite game. 27 years ago, Complete Goaltending Development I (Coach Chuck) stepped on the ice at the Walter Baker sport centre in Barrhaven, Nepean at the age of 5. Saturday mornings at 7am were development day for theNepean Minor Hockey Association and with about 40 grass root, ankle biting future super stars on the ice (some for the very first time), The lead instructor blew the whistle and herd the group to centre ice. The young instructor in charge was no more than 18 years old but fully demanded the attention of every young player and I was all ears.
